Review: AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!11th Feb, 2014
With a title like this, you'd almost expect more. Or not.
The name of this game alone is shitty. AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) is one of the more unique game titles I've come across and while some may find it creative, I find it stupid. Despite kind of making sense, I think there could've been a better title. It implies that the player is screaming, given that the entire game is about falling. Even with that gripping title, the game completely falls flat for me.
I was immediately turned off by its odd sense of humor. The title screen, for example, indicates you should "gently caress" it to begin. Throughout the rest of the game you'll find various "yo's" and mentions of things that are "mad" (as in skills). It's a bit like an old guy trying to be cool. It feels wrong.
To navigate the game, you wade through a tiled menu that rotates around, each tile representing a level or a video. Virtually all of these are locked when you first begin, including the "how to play" video. The first level is fairly self-explanatory so it's not exactly a problem, it's just ironic.
The point of the game is to tilt your phone to move around and avoid obstacles while free-falling. You earn points by passing through various "plates," each worth some amount of points. As you near the end of your fall, tapping the parachute button that appears will prevent you from experiencing a painful death.
By surviving a fall, your score is tallied. For not dying, you're rewarded with "teeth," which are used to unlock the other levels and videos. The videos are used to explain and unlock new features of the game. The aforementioned "how to play" video explains the concepts of "hugs" and "kisses". A kiss is earned by coming very close to an obstacle as you fall, and hugs are earned by remaining close to the obstacle for an extended period. Each hug and kiss you earn is worth 100 points. Later in the game you'll unlock more interesting abilities such as graffiti, which allows you to spray paint things mid-air, or stunts, both of which will earn you more points.
Overall the gameplay here isn't bad. The tilt controls are actually pretty great because they calibrate to the way you're holding your phone before you start, which means you can hold it pretty much any way you want and have an easy time controlling yourself. The tilt sensitivity can also be adjusted if the default doesn't work well for you. The problem I found is that the game just isn't very entertaining. I was genuinely bored with it after 4 or 5 rounds.
It could be that this simply isn't my type of game, but I was definitely turned off by it's odd humor. I can imagine the developers trying to make the game better by making it funny, but for me they failed miserably. It's a little strange, oddly titled and not very entertaining.
AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!: 3/5 piles of poo.
