My name is Josh Vickerson. I'm a third-year student at RIT majoring in Information Technology, minoring in web development. I'm working towards a career in front-end web development, and mobile application development. I started this website as a means of, at a basic level, examining trends in iOS app design and looking at what interactions work well and don't work well. As an aspiring developer, I felt it was important that I do this.
The goal of this site is simple: write a quick iPhone App review that gets the point across. These reviews are not intended to be overly analytical or thorough, though I will touch on some more serious concepts in them from time to time. Originally, each app came from an App-A-Day calendar and a review was written almost every day.
Unfortunately, life has a way of taking over and that level of commitment proved to be too great. Reviews will come at a slower rate so I can focus on higher quality writing. From time to time I will also write posts that are not reviews but still related to iOS app development in some way.
- All free apps are to be tried
- Paid apps are optional to download
- I'm not to look at other reviews prior to analyzing/writing about it myself
The name of this site came largely as a joke (or maybe he was serious) from my friend @MikeASchneider who noticed that my reviews tend to be negative and asked why I didn't just buy shittyiphoneapps.com. Shortly after learning the domain was available, it had to be purchased.
So here we are, ranking apps by piles of poo. The scale is easy. 0 or 1 piles of poo means the app is good, 4 or 5 means it's awful (I hope you can fill in the middle). The scoring is a subjective scale of how I felt about using the app and should not be taken too seriously. Though I focus primarily on the bad apps, good apps will be worked into the mix to keep things more interesting.
No Shit Awards
On very rare occasions, I may be quite blown away by an app and be so astounded by its greatness that I'll award it a No Shit Award. This means I've given the app 0/5 piles of poo and it blew my mind. These are the apps that are really worth trying.
